My name is Perun, a curious little Border Collie, whose world is full of wonders. Today I discovered three types of water: the one that refreshes the throat, the one that falls from the sky, and the one in which I bathe. But let’s start from the beginning!
This morning I was particularly diligent. I woke up with the first rays of the sun and listened to a concert of birds chirping on the branches of huge trees in my new yard. My owner gave me a lot of attention while sipping his morning elixir with an aroma they call coffee. We played far and wide on the spacious veranda, while the sun caressed us with its invisible palms. Ah, morning! How I love the morning. I love rewards too. Every time I hear my name, Perun, I run to my owner and am rewarded with a delicious treat tailored to my puppy age. It’s our little game: he moves away, calls me, and I get a reward when I get to him. How fun!
But this time it was different. He went down the stairs and called me. I ran to the stairs and stopped. I looked into the depth of the staircase and felt fear freeze my paws. I was faced with an obstacle I couldn’t overcome. I looked up at my bipedal friend, who was standing down and looking at me. I whimpered softly, begging for help. I looked into the abyss again and thought I was doomed to live on the surface of the veranda forever. Then I whimpered even louder.
My bipedal friend said my name again and showed me the reward he held between his fingers. Joy overwhelmed me when I saw his smiling face and the reward waiting for me, but between me and it stood the stairs and my fear. I barked and whimpered with all the might of my puppy heart. He came closer and placed the reward on the first step in front of me. Can you believe it? He put my reward on a step that was unreachable for me! I barked loudly, looking straight at the reward, as if it were an enemy, even though I have no enemies.
My friend came even closer and quietly said: “Perun.” I whimpered softly, looking towards the tasty dessert. He extended his hand, showing that the step wasn’t that high. This time, I overcame my fear and put my paw on his hand. Although uncertain of the outcome of this adventure, I relied on his hand, trembling with fear, and stepped down. And… Olaaa, the reward was mine! All mine! It was indescribable joy to eat that treads. I chewed all the flavors in that little puppy bomb with pleasure.
But what now? I found myself on a step, unable to go down or up. Another reward appeared before my eyes on a lower step. And another, and another, all the way to the bottom of the stairs. I whimpered once more, focusing on the task. I focused on the nearest reward, just one step lower. I whimpered and whimpered, slowly lowering my paw, while my friend let me overcome the obstacle by myself. Although I was brave, it took ten attempts to descend one step lower and become the bravest puppy in the world. Great happiness and joy overwhelmed me. I proudly chewed that candy. I looked at the next step and the reward lying on it, realizing that there was still some fear in me. But this time, on the second attempt, I overcame that fear and smeared my puppy mustache with a tasty bite. Now it was easy, this was the bottom of the abyss called the yard, and in front of me was just one more step and a full bag of courage. And… Hop! I did it! And… Yum!
The game continued! We rejoiced, chased, cuddled, cared, went down the stairs, and went up the stairs without any problems. We repeated the adventure with the stairs countless times and I realized that there was no fear in me when it came to stairs. I ran all over the yard, in the meantime, I managed to eat and quench my thirst countless times. Oh, and I dozed off while the biped was making a garden and a lawn where we will enjoy the rest of this summer. He works, and I slowly close my eyes and dream my sweet dreams.
I filled my stomach with various tasty things and my head with new knowledge and adventures. Scents filled my curious nostrils and, through a dream, I dreamed of scents and events from today’s expeditions.
However, I sensed a new smell in the air and something big and new that woke me up. I didn’t know it then, but it was the smell of that other water I told you about. It was the smell of water falling from the sky. A new smell, a pressure in the air was felt. The wind stopped and a swelter began that forced me to wake up from my peaceful sleep.
But that’s already a story for the second part of this trilogy. I advise you to continue reading the next story below while I slowly transition from sleep to wakefulness and stretch my paws into reality. ;-)
